It’s not really clear why anyone would care, but let’s talk about the stock market today. Shares of Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Jio Financial Services, IndusInd, and Bharat Electronics were the only ones that managed to stay in the green zone with some small gains among the Nifty 50 components. On the other hand, M&M, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, and ITC were the big losers of the day.

The equity benchmark indices took a nosedive due to worries about the increasing debt and deficit levels in the US. Market experts are saying that the pressure in the bond markets all over the world is also affecting how investors are feeling. Sensex fell by a whopping 987.38 points or 1.21 percent to 80,609.25, while Nifty 50 dropped 299.20 points or 1.21 percent to 24,514.25.

Almost all the sectoral indices, except for media, were in the red today. FMCG, IT, auto, and pharma sectors saw a significant decline of around 1-2 percent. Midcap stocks had a slight drop, and smallcap stocks slipped as well. The volatility index went up by 0.82 percent to 17.69.

In the stock market today, there were 1,128 stocks that went up and 1,535 that went down out of the total 2,748 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. HDFC AMC, HDFC Life, and BEL shares were among the 39 stocks that hit their 52-week high. Meanwhile, 14 stocks hit their 52-week low.

GRSE, Aster DM, ITI, and HSCL shares in the smallcap category saw a rise of 2-6 percent. On the other hand, NTPC Green, Astral, Solar Industries, Cochin Shipyard, and National Aluminium in the midcap section soared by 3-5 percent. TTML, Prince Pipa, Va Tech, Fortis, and SCI shares on the BSE rallied by 7-13 percent, while Aditya Birla Fashion, GMM Pfaudler, HGI Infra, and Colgate tumbled by 5-7 percent.

IndusInd shares were trading flat at ₹770.15 at the time of writing, after jumping from the day’s low of ₹725.80 following the Q4 results. IndiGo, NTPC Green, and Va Tech shares continued their upward trend. RVNL shares, on the other hand, went down by 1.57 percent to ₹405.60 after their Q4 performance.

ITC, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Sun Pharma, Ramco Cements, Honasa, and Strides Pharma shares are expected to be in focus today due to their Q4 results. Keep an eye out for live updates.
