In a recent phone call between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, things got real interesting. On May 1, India didn’t beat around the bush; they straight up told the US they were planning to hit back at Pakistan. No room for misinterpretation there.
And guess what? India made it crystal clear that they were not looking for anyone else to meddle in their business. They were like, “Thanks, but no thanks. We got this.” The US was cool with that and decided to help out at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) instead. They even sponsored a statement about the whole Pahalgam attack debacle.
Fast forward to May 10, and Rubio was on the line with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir. He wanted to know if Pakistan would stop attacking if India did. India, on the other hand, was like, “If they chill, we’ll chill.” Simple as that.
But, of course, Pakistan had to start talking about nukes. Classic move when they’re feeling the heat. Some Pakistani big shots were throwing around the idea of using nukes, but India didn’t get any direct messages about it. Rubio and Jaishankar didn’t even bother discussing it during their chat.
Now India is getting ready to bring the heat diplomatically. They’re putting together a team to head to the UNSC with fresh evidence linking Pakistan to cross-border terrorism. The UNSC’s 1267 Sanctions Committee is scheduled to meet soon to check out the evidence.
So, like, not really sure why this matters, but it seems like things are heating up between India and Pakistan. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like tensions are rising, and it’s only a matter of time before things really explode. Let’s hope both sides can keep it together before things get out of hand.
