Nissan’s Chennai-Made Magnite SUVs Begin Export Journey
Nissan Motor India has embarked on an exciting new chapter by initiating the export of the Left-Hand Drive (LHD) Nissan Magnite, manufactured at the Oragadam plant in Chennai. The inaugural shipment of around 2,900 units was successfully dispatched to specific LATAM markets in January 2025, marking a significant milestone for the automaker’s global expansion strategy.
Expanding Horizons: A Global Endeavor
In a strategic move to broaden its reach, Nissan plans to export an additional 7,100 units of the popular B-segment SUV Magnite LHD in the coming month. The company aims to target diverse markets in West Asia, North Africa, LATAM, and the Asia-Pacific region, with total exports expected to surpass 10,000 units by February. This export initiative aligns seamlessly with Nissan’s overarching philosophy of ‘One Car, One World,’ underscoring India’s pivotal role as a primary manufacturing and export hub for the brand.
Embracing the Future: Vision and Progress
Frank Torres, Divisional Vice-President of AMIEO Region Business Transformation & President of Nissan India Operations, expressed enthusiasm about the recent developments. He emphasized, “In line with our export plans announced last year, the company has begun export of the new Magnite to LHD markets. This is a significant achievement, and we look forward to serving new customers in these regions.” The debut of the new Magnite in October 2024 has garnered substantial interest in India and in right-hand drive (RHD) markets, setting the stage for its global expansion.
Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The commencement of exports of Magnite LHD reinforces our ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision. This also highlights India’s increasing importance as a key manufacturing and export hub for Nissan. We are on track with the plans we laid out during the launch of the 4th Generation Nissan X-TRAIL and new Magnite last year.” This commitment to innovation and growth underscores Nissan’s dedication to delivering quality vehicles worldwide.
Driving Success: A Record of Achievement
The recent export push follows Nissan Motor India’s successful shipment of the RHD Magnite to South Africa, where over 2,700 units were exported within a month of its global launch. Since its introduction in December 2020, the Nissan Magnite has achieved remarkable success, with cumulative sales exceeding 170,000 units. This achievement speaks to the brand’s enduring appeal and commitment to producing vehicles that resonate with consumers across different markets.
As Nissan embarks on this new chapter of global exports, the Chennai-made Magnite SUVs symbolize not just a product but a testament to innovation, quality, and the brand’s unwavering commitment to excellence. With each unit that leaves the production line, Nissan’s legacy continues to unfold, shaping the future of mobility and setting new standards for the automotive industry.
