RSS Unions Call for Income Tax Exemption Limit Increase to Rs 10 Lakh Ahead of Budget 2025
In a bid to provide relief to the middle class, RSS-affiliated organisations have put forth a series of proposals to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ahead of the Union Budget 2025 set to be presented on February 1, 2025. Among the top recommendations is the raise of the income tax exemption limit to Rs 10 lakh, aiming to ease the financial burden on taxpayers.
Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh’s Recommendations
During pre-budget discussions, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) representatives, headed by Pawan Kumar, voiced their suggestions to Sitharaman. The group advocated for extending the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to ensure 200 workdays per family each year. Additionally, they called for a tailored package to support labour-intensive sectors such as agriculture, plantation, beedi, and fisheries.
Laghu Udyog Bharati’s Requests
Representing small and medium enterprises, Laghu Udyog Bharati urged for expedited processing of Goods and Services Tax (GST) refunds, proposed an amnesty program for minor GST filing errors, and suggested adjustments to GST rates to better suit the needs of businesses.
Bhartiya Kisan Sangh and Swadeshi Jagran Manch’s Concerns
Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, a leading agricultural group, pushed for GST exemption on farming inputs and called for periodic increases in the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme. They also sought direct transfers of fertiliser subsidies to farmers’ accounts to streamline the process and ensure timely support.
On the other hand, Swadeshi Jagran Manch, the economic division of RSS, expressed worries over the trade imbalance with China. They emphasized the importance of robust manufacturing policies, including tariffs and trade measures, to bolster domestic production and reduce dependency on imports.
As the budget date approaches, the pressure is mounting on FM Sitharaman to consider these proposals carefully and make decisions that will benefit the economy at large. The call to raise the income tax exemption limit to Rs 10 lakh has garnered support from various quarters, but the final verdict rests in the hands of the government.
